Blackfish Gallery Show, Portland OR May 2014

My sculptures are creatures that have grown out of my longstanding interests in living things and their interactions, and an interest in using and promoting the use of alternative energy. I build my pieces using contemporary materials and technology - microprocessors, solar panels, wireless communication and motors, but I’m more concerned with timeless phenomena: with how living creatures dance and make music together, with slow handcrafted process, and with cultivating attentiveness (both my own and the viewer’s) by making artwork which comes to life, and pieces that pay attention to each other. The robotic pieces depict living beings or life forces in an abstracted way that doesn’t distinguish between life and technology or between art and science.
